Jeffery Jay Luhn—I have a 3-year contract to produce documentation photos of the San Clemente Dam removal project in Monterey County, CA. It’s the largest dam removal and watershed restoration project west of the Mississippi and has enthusiastic support from environmental groups.

An active construction site is tough on camera gear and hanging over the edge of the dam to record the water flow is especially dangerous. I produced this panorama shot using my Samsung Note 3 cell phone camera on the end of a monopod. Six shots were automatically stitched together by the camera within moments. Additional enhancements were achieved in Photoshop.  The camera clamp is made by Square Jellyfish.

I’ve been a commercial photographer for 43 years. We used to shoot this stuff in film and rush back to the lab to see if we got the shot. I tried to remain a film purist, but once you get digital superpowers, it’s impossible to give them up.
