Setting the tone
Steve Dreyer—I have traveled, with camera always at hand, to China, Vietnam and Cambodia. There’s something special about these countries, even magical, about the history, culture, food and especially the people who invite you into their homes.
There’s no end to the opportunities to photograph these places. But a challenge is to make images that are different from photos that can be found on postcards and in travel books.
I decided that these two images, along with several others that made it into a gallery exhibit, deserved to be toned and without their original colors in order to accentuate the patterns and grain in the scenes. The addition of a black grungy border, in a square format with white mat and black frame was one way to create something different. To see more of Steve’s work visit stevedreyer.com.
